Vitesse Arnhem
Playing football had always been one of my passions. Not only did I like playing the sport, I liked every aspect of it. In 2018 my dream became a reality; I signed for a professional football team. I wasn't playing for the first team, but instead started an internship to help the club enter a new exciting market; China.
Vitesse plays at the top of Dutch football and regularly qualifies for European Leagues. The club is famous for its 5-star Youth academy. Under the guidance of the CEO, I developed a strategy for Vitesse to generate market opportunities in the Chinese football industry. My ideas were implemented and saw Chinese children visit the Netherlands for a one-week training program while generating new revenue streams for Vitesse.
There are many opportunities for Vitesse to invest in the Chinese football market. Opportunities range from elite - grassroots level, to educating coaches & players, and pursuing various commercial activities. Vitesse’s expertise in facilities and the development of football should always be maximized and used to strength. Pursuing a growing Chinese industry could be very profitable for the growth of Vitesse and its ability to continue investing in an established and successful academy. It is highly recommended that Vitesse take China into consideration for new growth opportunities.
During my time at Vitesse, I had the opportunity to work with all different departments. I shared an office with the on-site lawyer, who taught me the basics of the legal paperwork for a professional sports team, including transfers. I worked with the finance department, the marketing team, the e-sports team, and "Vitesse Betrokken" the social foundation of the club. One day I even became Vito (the mascot). More importantly, I shared a 1-hour car ride every day with the CEO, who taught me insights into running a successful soccer club. From engaging board members to running a profitable corporation with a double-sided business model (sporting success and profitability), my time at Vitesse was truly a remarkable experience.
